The previous video ended with the seventh bowl, in which “great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath” (Revelation 16:19). The seventh bowl, introduced chapter 17, provides us with the details about the identity and the fate of modern Babylon, the great harlot.

We find out more about the harlot from her name: “On her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH” (Revelation 17:5). Before we examine this multi-faceted name, let me give a content warning. As we get closer to an identification of the harlot, we will have to say some things that could be considered politically incorrect.

The book of Revelation reveals that Final Babylon will arise out of existing world entities. At present, those entities would consider it outrageous and offensive to be linked to a future persecuting power. However, as we are studying the book of Revelation, we see that unless world players take a firm stand for God and adopt the values of the Kingdom of Heaven, their current behaviour will change and morph into that of “Babylon the great, the mother of harlots and of the abominations of the earth”.

The Final Crisis picks up where the Revelation timeline took its detour at the end of chapter 11, with the seventh trumpet. In this series, we will study the events relating to the Seven Last Plagues, the Battle of Armageddon, the fall of Babylon, and the Second Coming of Christ.

If you haven’t done so already, please review the other videos in the final crisis series to gain a better understanding of the context.
